In the modeling world, polaroid pictures (also called digitals) are simple, unedited photos that show a model in their most natural state — no filters, no heavy makeup, and no dramatic lighting or retouching. They’re used by modeling agencies and clients to see what you really look like, beyond your professional portfolio images.
Because they show your true appearance — your skin, hair, body shape, height, and bone structure — agencies and clients rely on them to determine if you fit a particular look, brand, or campaign. These photos help them see your natural beauty, proportions, and potential before investing in a professional shoot or booking.
What do modeling polaroids typically include?
Here’s a basic breakdown of the shots you need:
Headshot (straight face)
Headshot smiling
Profile (side view of your face)
¾-length shot
Full-body shot (front, side, and back)
These should be done against a plain background, and with no retouching.

What should models wear in polaroids?
Fitted clothes (a black tank top or t-shirt and skinny jeans, or a swimsuit)
Minimal or no makeup
Natural hair (down or in a clean ponytail)
No accessories or filters
The goal is to keep everything simple so your features shine through without distractions.
Who needs polaroids?
Everyone from new models trying to get signed to working models attending castings needs updated digitals regularly — especially if your look changes (new haircut, hair color, body changes, etc.). Agencies often ask for them before submissions or updates to your profile.
